Laycock killed his 21-year-old wife Maria, his 5-year-old daughter Sarah, his 3-year-old son Francis and his 11-month-old daughter Mary in White Croft on 10 July 1884. Afterwards Laycock tried to cut his own throat but didn't succeed.

King of Serbia Alexander I born as Aleksandar Obrenović is shot dead along Queen Draga Mašin by a mob of soldiers and civilians headed by the anti-monarchist colonel Dragutin Dimitriljevic Apis and Greek Orthodox militant Novak Perisic at the age of 27 in Stari Dvor, Beograd, Beograd, Serbia. King Alexander and Queen Draga were shot and their bodies mutilated and disemboweled and, according to eyewitness accounts, thrown from a second floor window of the palace onto piles of garden manure.
