African American civil rights activist Medgar Wiley Evers is shot in the back by Ku Klux Klan member Byron De La Beckwith at the age of 38 in 2332 Margaret Walker Alexander Drive, Jackson, Mississippi, United States. De La Beckwith was only convicted of murder three decades later, on 5 February 1994. He died at age 80 in prison on 21 January 2001.
