Schönberg had spent the whole day in bed suffering from triskaidekaphobia. On his seventy-sixth birthday, his friend, mentor and fellow composer Oskar Adler wrote Schönberg a note warning him that the year was a critical one: 7 + 6 = 13. This stunned and depressed the composer, for up to that point he had only been wary of multiples of 13 and never considered adding the digits of his age.

Victim of D. C. Stephenson aka The Grand Dragon of the Realm of the Indiana Ku-Klux-Klan Madge Augustine Oberholtzer commits suicide by mercury bichloride-poisoning at the age of 28 in Hamilton, Ohio, United States. On 15 March Oberholtzer was savagely raped by The Grand Dragon of the Realm of the Indiana Ku-Klux-Klan, David Curtis Stephenson. An examination of Oberholtzer's body later revealed deep bite wounds were on her face, neck, breasts, back, legs, ankles, and tongue. She died from a staph infection from the bites plus kidney failure from the mercury poisoning.
