Anton Joseph Cermak, originally Antonín Josef Čermák is shot by assassin Giuseppe Zangara at the age of 60 in Miami, Florida, United States.

Zangara actually tried to assassinate 32nd president of the USA Franklin Roosevelt. At the critical moment Lilian Cross, a woman standing near Zangara, hit Zangara's arm with her purse and spoiled his aim. Cermak died of his wounds at Jackson Memorial Hospital on 6 March.
