Libyan Arab Airline Flight 114 was lost and entered Israeli-controlled airspace over the Sinai Peninsula, where it was intercepted by two Israeli F-4 Phantom IIs, and was shot down after refusing to co-operate. There were six survivors.

Dentist Philip Blaiberg dies of a final rejection of his new heart at the age of 60 in Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, Cape Province, South Africa. Blaiberg was the man who lived longest with a transplanted heart.
