King was signing copies of his book 'Stride Toward Freedom' when Curry said "I've been looking for you for five years" and stabbed him in the chest with a ivory handled steel letter opener. When the ambulance arrived King was sitting in a chair with the letter opener protruding from his chest. At Harlem Hospital Chief of Surgery Aubre de Lambert Maynard attempted to pull out the letter opener but cut his glove on the blade. A surgical clamp was finally used to pull out the blade.

Eugénie Delomme is raped and strangled by serial killer Joseph Vacher aka L’Eventreur du Sud-Est at the age of 21 in Beaurepaire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France.

Vacher also severed Delomme's right breast. She was his first deadly victim.
