Marchwicki's trial received great interest; entrance to the room was only allowed by a special entrance ticket. On 28 July 1975 the Katowice Voivodship Court found Marchwicki guilty of the murder of fourteen women and attempted murder of another six, condemning him to death.

Lauren Marquez is strangled and her neck broken by serial killer Joel Rifkin aka The Long Island Ripper at the age of 28 in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States.

Marquez' body was found in June hidden by brush in a location Rifkin pinpointed for the police in a confession after his arrest.
