McLaren's Can-Am car crashed on the Lavant Straight just before Woodcote corner. The rear bodywork came adrift at speed making the loss of aerodynamic downforce destabilising the car, which spun, left the track and hit a bunker used as a flag station.

Billy Gene Baulch is tortured and strangled by serial killer Dean Corll aka The Candyman at the age of 17 in 925 Schuler Street, Houston, Texas, United States.

He was strangled by Wayne Henley and buried at High Island Beach.
