On 20 July 1992 Mays asked his neighbour children 10-year-old Kristin Michelle Wiley and 7-year-old Kynara Lorin Carreiro to lower the volume on their stereo. Kynara answered "No, we're not going to turn it down! Just get out of the house!" Then Mays began stabbing both girls with a knife he took from the kitchen. Mays' last meal request was for six scrambled eggs with shredded cheese, cream gravy, hash browns, pan sausage, orange juice, and milk.

Nora Lake dies of Spontaneous Human Combustion at the age of 42 in Kingston, New York, United States. Mrs. Lake was found dead on the second floor in a bedroom. Her body was on the floor next to a dresser and a window that overlooked a porch roof. Her face was burned, and there were blisters on her legs but her clothes were not burned.
