On 25 March Richard was struck in the left shoulder near the neck by a crossbowman while walking around the unarmed castle of Châlus-Chabrol. He tried to pull the arrow out in the privacy of his tent but failed. A surgeon called a 'butcher' removed it, carelessly mangling the King's arm in the process.

Stano's last meal request was for Delmonico steak, a baked potato with sour cream and bacon bits, tossed salad with blue cheese dressing, lima beans, a half gallon of mint chocolate-chip ice cream, and 2 litres of Pepsi.
