Burton was condemned for the July 1997 killing and attempted rape of 48-year-old Nancy Adleman, brutally beaten and strangled with her own shoelace in a heavily wooded area off a jogging trail along a bayou. According to the authorities, Burton confessed to killing her, saying "she asked me why was I doing it and that I didn't have to do it."

66 Die in sulphurous anhydride poison gas cloud in Liège, Liège, Belgium. In the fatal cases an acute circulatory insufficiency set in, with rapid and poor pulse, face pale - more rarely cyanotic - and an extension of the cardiac dulness. Other symptoms were changes in the tone of the voice, increasing to hoarseness, nausea, occasional vomiting, and lachrymation.
