On 17 June 2004 Woods had surrendered to police inside a crack house when 24-year-old Kerry Spencer came downstairs and opened fire, killing three officers. Spencer and Woods were both charged with the murders despite Woods never firing a weapon. Spencer was also sentenced to death and remains on death row at Holman Correctional Facility awaiting execution.

Irina Karabelnikova is stabbed to death by serial killer Andrei Chikatilo aka The Rostov Ripper at the age of 19 in Shakhtnaya Station, Shakhty, Rostov Oblast, Russia.

Karabelnikova's body was found on 20 September.
