83-year-old Anti-war protester Alice Herz immolates herself in protest of the escalating Vietnam War in front of Federal Department Store, corner of Oakman and Grand River, Detroit, Michigan, United States.

Herz was rescued by a motorist and his two sons who were driving by and saw her burning and put out the flames. She died of her injuries ten days later.

Between 347 and 504 unarmed people are killed by the U.S. Army soldiers from Company C, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 11th Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Infantry Division led by 25-year-old American hero and mass murderer William Laws Calley known for the My Lay Massacre in Mỹ Lai, Sơn Mỹ, Sơn Tịnh District, Vietnam.

Twenty-six soldiers were charged with criminal offenses, but only Calley was convicted. Found guilty of killing 22 villagers, he was originally given a life sentence but served only three and a half years under house arrest.

They also killed Moro's bodyguards, two Carabinieri in Moro's car and three policemen in the following car. On 9 May 1978 Moro's body was found in the trunk of a Renault 4 in Via Caetani after 55 days of imprisonment, during which he was submitted to a political trial by the so-called 'people's court' set up by the Brigate Rosse.

I made a metal mask which was fixed to my head. While Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven read a text about willpower, I pulled myself forward with the mask by a rope. The sound of my breathing was electronically amplified through a throat-microphone.
