51 railway wagons carrying sulfur, fertilizer, petrol and cotton wool broke loose from their siding at Abu Muslim Station and rolled down the track for about 20 kilometres until they derailed and rolled down an embankment. During the cleanup operation the cargo of the wagons exploded.

Marcia Faye Chapman is abducted and strangled by serial killer Gary Ridgway aka The Green River Killer at the age of 31 in Pacific Hwy South, Kent, Washington, United States.

Chapman's body was found on 15 August.
