Byck shot and killed Maryland Aviation Administration Police officer George Neal Ramsburg before storming aboard Delta Air Lines DC-9 Flight 523 to Atlanta, which he wanted to crash on the White House to kill President Nixon. When pilots Reese Doug Loftin and Fred Jones told him they could not take off until wheel blocks were removed he shot them both. After a standoff with police Byck committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

24-year-old serial killer Thierry Paulin aka Le Tueur de la Pleine Lune is arrested in Saint-Denis, Île-de-France, France. Paulin was recognised by a policeman who remembered his description from one of his latest victims.
