Murderer Harold McQueen is executed by Old Sparky at the age of 45 in Kentucky State Penitentiary, Eddyville, Kentucky, United States. During McQueen's execution smoke was seen rising from the electrodes placed on his right ankle. He was declared dead eight minutes after the execution had begun.
