Seven of the nine occupants were killed: Nelson and his 27-year-old companion Helen Blair, 35-year-old bass guitarist Patrick Woodward, 22-year-old drummer Rick Intveld, 34-year-old keyboardist Andy Chapin, 38-year-old guitarist Bobby Neal, and 35-year-old road manager/soundman Donald Clark Russell. Pilots Ken Ferguson and Brad Rank escaped via cockpit windows, although Ferguson was severely burned.

23-year-old mass murderer Jack Graham plants a dynamite bomb in his mother, Daisie King's suitcase that was subsequently loaded aboard United Airlines Flight 629 and exploding over tracts of farmland and sugar beet fields in Longmont, Colorado, United States. Graham had purchased $37,500 worth of life insurance money policies in the airport terminal just before the aircraft's departure at Stapleton Airfield in Denver, Colorado. 44 people were killed in the blast, there were no survivors.
