The flight was designed and marketed as a unique sightseeing experience, carrying an experienced Antarctic guide who pointed out scenic features and landmarks using the aircraft public-address system, while passengers enjoyed a low-flying sweep of McMurdo Sound. The flights left and returned to New Zealand the same day.

14-year-old assassin Lee Harvey Oswald attempts to assassinate Major-General Edwin Walker in Dallas, Texas, United States. Oswald considered Walker a "fascist" and the leader of a "fascist organization". Walker was sitting at a desk in his dining room when Oswald fired at him from less than 30m away. The bullet struck the wooden frame of the window which deflected its path. Walker was injured in the forearm by fragments.
