A student discovered the package and alerted the campus police. The campus police worried it might be bomb and brought in the Salt Lake City Police. Their bomb squad x-rayed the package, confirmed it was a bomb and disabled it with a small explosive charge.

Joseph Romano is attacked by serial killer The Axeman of New Orleans at the age of 80 in Tonti and Gravier streets, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.

Romano died two days later due to severe head trauma.
