Hugh Scrutton is killed in a bomb blast by mathematician and serial bomber Theodore Kaczynski aka The Unabomber at the age of 38 in Rentech Computer Store, Sacramento, California, United States.

Scrutton left his computer rental store for lunch when he stopped to pick up what he may have thought to be litter. It was Kaczynski's pipe bomb #11 concealed in a wooden box.
