War leader Abdel Hakim Mohamed Amer commits suicide by an overdose of medication at the age of 48 in Caïro, Al Qahirah, Egypt. Amer was approached by high-ranking Egyptian officers and was given a choice to stand trial for treason, which would inevitably have ended with his conviction and execution, or die an honourable death by taking poison. Amer chose the latter option and received a full military burial. |
