The Long March 3 rocket carrying the Intelsat 708 telecommunications satellite is launched in Xichang Satellite Launch Center, Xichang, Sichuan, China. The rocket flies off course 3 seconds after liftoff and crashes into a rural village. Estimates suggest that anywhere between 200 to 500 people might have been killed in the crash.
