Horn was one of the few people to have been hanged by a water-powered gallows known as the 'Julian Gallows', designed by Cheyenne architect James P. Julian. On the scaffold Horn shouted: “Ain’t losing your nerve are you, Joe?”.

Poet and writer Hugo Laurenz August Hofmann von Hofmannsthal dies of a stroke at the age of 55 in Wien, Wien, Austria. Hofmannsthal died shortly after attending the funeral of his son Franz who committed suicide two days before.
