United Airlines Flight 175 departed Logan Airport at 8:14 a.m. en route to Los Angeles with a crew of nine and 51 passengers, not including five hijackers. The hijackers flew the plane into the southern facade of the South Tower at 9:03 a.m. The four other hijackers were 24-year-old Fayez Banihammad, 22-year-old Mohand al-Shehri, 20-year-old Hamza al-Ghamdi and 22-year-old Ahmed al-Ghamdi.

Murderer John David Duty is executed by lethal injection at the age of 58 in Oklahoma State Penitentiary, McAlester, Oklahoma, United States. Duty was to be the first US prisoner whose execution included the use of the sedative pentobarbital, commonly used to euthanise animals. Duty's last meal request was for a double cheeseburger with mayonnaise, a foot-long hot dog with cheese, mustard and onions, a cherry limeade, and a banana shake.
