I took off my left shoe and tied small branches and straw against my leg. I lit several candles together and let the candlewax drip over the branches and my leg until a kind of shell was formed. Then I cut loose all the ropes and left the small stake behind.

Murderer Dennis McGuire is executed by lethal injection at the age of 53 in Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, Lucasville, Ohio, United States. McGuire made several loud snorting or snoring sounds while straining to catch his breath as he experienced a medical phenomenon known as air hunger. Ohio officials used intravenous doses of two drugs, the sedative midazolam and the painkiller hydromorphone.
