Till was abducted and beaten and mutilated before being shot in the head and his body thrown in the Tallahatchie River. Tens of thousands attended Till's funeral or viewed his open casket and images of his mutilated body were published in black-oriented magazines and newspapers. In September 1955 an all-white jury found Carolyn's 24-year-old husband Roy Bryant and his 34-year-old half-brother John William Milam not guilty of Till's kidnapping and murder.

Playwright and actor Molière born as Jean-Baptiste Poquelin collapses on stage in a fit of coughing and haemorrhaging at the age of 51 in 40 Rue de Richelieu, IIe, Paris, Île-de-France, France. Afterwards Molière collapsed again with another larger haemorrhage before being taken home where he died a few hours later.
