Konen vanished while hitchhiking with another student from the University of Texas to his parents' home in Houston. He was dropped off alone at the corner of Westheimer Road and South Voss Road near the Uptown area of Houston. Konen was Corll's first victim. Konen's body was buried at High Island Beach.

59-year-old serial killer Charles Sobhraj, originally Bharat Rajpurohit aka Bad Blood is recognised in a street by a journalist in Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal. Sobhraj still had a warrant out for the 1975 murders of 29-year-old Connie Bronzich and 26-year-old Laurent Ormond Carrière. He was arrested two days later.
