Writer and political activist Maxim Gorky born as Alexei Maximovich Peshkov dies of influenza at the age of 68 in Ryabushinsky Mansion, Malaya Nikitskaya Street 6, Moscow, Central Federal District, Russia. Speculation has long surrounded the circumstances of Gorky's death. He was probably murdered by kampher injections and digitaline-strychnine-poisoning by members of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs.
