On 17 May Mei was force-fed by an inmate who had no medical skills at all, the feeding tube was wrongly inserted causing serious injuries. After she returned to her cell she had a headache and started to vomit blood, lapsed into a coma and never regained consciousness again. Mei was the 19th Falun Gong member to die in police custody.

Murderer Wilford Lee Berry aka The Volunteer is executed by lethal injection at the age of 37 in Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, Lucasville, Ohio, United States. Berry was the first convict to waive his right to appeal his death sentence after Ohio reinstated the death penalty. Berry became the first person to be executed in Ohio since 1963.
