Between 22 and 29 December, 27 bodies were recovered from Gacy's property, 26 of which were found buried in his crawl space, with one additional victim, John Butkovitch, being found buried beneath the concrete floor of his garage precisely where Gacy had marked the youth's grave with a can of spray paint.

Quaker and anti-war protester Norman Morrison commits suicide by self-immolation at the age of 32 in The Pentagon, Arlington County, Virginia, United States. Morrison doused himself in kerosene and set himself on fire below Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's office. In the Vietnamese city of Đà Nẵng a road is named after Morrison in memory of his act against the Vietnam-U.S conflict.
