Schiffer was still plugged into the device after he was discovered by guards. A post-mortem evaluation determined that Schiffer died as a result of heart failure caused by the electricity coursing through his body.

A fire of unknown cause breaks out at a dwelling causing the Great Fire in Cornhill, Boston, Massachusetts, United States. 174 houses and 175 warehouses, shops and other buildings were destroyed in the blaze, leaving some two hundred and twenty families homeless.
