37-year-old writer Norman Mailer stabs his 37-year-old wife Adele with a penknife in the abdomen and back at a party in their apartment in 250 West 94th Street, New York, New York, United States. Adele's pericardium was punctured and necessitated emergency surgery. She would not press charges and Mailer later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault and was given a suspended sentence.
