SS-Standortarzt at Auschwitz KZ Eduard Wirths commits suicide by hanging in his cell at the age of 36 in Civil Internment Camp No. 5, Staumühle in der Senne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Wirth was found hanging in his cell but still alive a few days before, he nevertheless died of his injuries.
