Singer-songwriter Jim James Joseph Croce dies in a Beechcraft E18S plane crash while taking off at the age of 30 in Natchitoches Regional Airport, Natchitoches, Louisiana, United States. Apart from Croce, 24-year-old guitarist Maury Muehleisen, 57-year-old charter pilot Robert N. Elliott, 36-year-old comedian George Stevens, 28-year-old manager and booking agent Kenneth D. Cortose and 30-year-old road manager Dennis Rast also died. The plane crashed an hour after the end of a concert at Northwestern State University's Prather Coliseum.
