Byck shot and killed Maryland Aviation Administration Police officer George Neal Ramsburg before storming aboard Delta Air Lines DC-9 Flight 523 to Atlanta, which he wanted to crash on the White House to kill President Nixon. When pilots Reese Doug Loftin and Fred Jones told him they could not take off until wheel blocks were removed he shot them both. After a standoff with police Byck committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

Serial killer, cannibal and necrophile Tsutomu Miyazaki aka The Little Girl Murderer is born in Itsukaichi, Kantō, Japan. Miyazaki's premature birth left him with deformed hands which were permanently gnarled and fused directly to the wrists, which meant he needed to move his entire forearm in order to rotate the hand.
