Veerappan and his men were lured into an ambulance by an undercover policeman under the pretext of taking them to Dharmapuri for medical treatment. The Tamil Nadu Special Task Force surrounded the ambulance and the gangsters were killed in the ensuing gunfight.

Painter Arshile Gorky born as Vostanik Manuk Adoian commits suicide by hanging at the age of 44 in Sherman, Connecticut, United States. Gorky had undergone a cancer operation and was involved in a car crash in which he broke his neck. His wife left him and several of his works of art were destroyed in a studio fire.
