Dwyer killed himself in front of the gathered reporters at a press conference with a .357 caliber revolver. Dwyer's suicide was subsequently broadcast to a wide television audience across the state of Pennsylvania. He was about to being sentenced for taking a $300,000 kickback.

26-year-old Rolling Stone Brian Jones is arrested for possession of cannabis in his apartment in London, Greater London, United Kingdom. The jury found Jones guilty but the judge had sympathy for him, instead of jailing him he fined him £50 plus £105 in costs and told him: "For goodness sake, don't get into trouble again or it really will be serious".
