Murderer Richard Wayne Smith is executed by lethal injection at the age of 43 in Huntsville Prison, 815 12th Street, Huntsville, Texas, United States. Smith decided to drop his appeals so he wouldn’t die from his advancing hepatitis C, a progressive disease that leads to liver cancer, cirrhosis and liver failure. Smith contracted hepatitis through a shared heroin needle.
