Carter W. Baum is shot dead by gangster Baby Face Nelson at the age of 30 in Little Bohemia Lodge, Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, United States.

On 20 April 1934 John Dillinger's gang, consisting of Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, Homer Van Meter, Tommy Carroll, and John "Red" Hamilton settled at Little Bohemia Lodge after Dillinger's escape from the jail in Crown Point, Indiana on 3 March 1934. They were tracked down by FBI agents Melvin Purvis, W. Carter Baum and Jay Newman among others.
