34-year-old lieutenant-colonel and military air weaponry engineer Jean-Marie Bastien-Thiry attempts to assassinate President Charles de Gaulle in Rue Charles Debry, Clamart, Île-de-France, France. De Gaulle's Citroën DS and some nearby shops were raked with machine-gun fire. De Gaulle and his wife and entourage escaped uninjured.
