Kosiński suffered from multiple illnesses towards the end of his life and he was under attack from journalists who accused him of plagiarism. By his late 50s he was suffering from an irregular heartbeat as well as severe physical and nervous exhaustion. His parting note read: "I am going to put myself to sleep now for a bit longer than usual. Call it Eternity."

Ida Van Isacker-Smeets is raped, tortured and strangled by serial killer Gustaaf Van Eyken aka De Vampier van Muizen at the age of 46 in Dijleoever, Hanswijk, Mechelen, Antwerpen, Belgium.

Van Eyken wanted to rape Van Isacker but he couldn't so he strangled her. Then he went home to eat. Upon returning to finally rape her she was still alive. Van Eyken mutilated and strangled her again.
