On 17 May Mei was force-fed by an inmate who had no medical skills at all, the feeding tube was wrongly inserted causing serious injuries. After she returned to her cell she had a headache and started to vomit blood, lapsed into a coma and never regained consciousness again. Mei was the 19th Falun Gong member to die in police custody.

Prima ballerina Anna Pavlova born as Anna Pavlovna Matveyevna Pavlova dies of pleurisy at the age of 49 in Hotel Des Indes, Lange Voorhout 54-56, Den Haag, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands. Pavlova was told that she had pneumonia and required an operation, she refused to have the surgery saying "If I can't dance then I'd rather be dead."
