Triple murderer John Starling Gardner is executed by lethal injection at the age of 34 in Raleigh State Prison, Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. Gardner's last words were "All I have to say is if more parents would raise their children in God-fearing homes, maybe some of them wouldn't end up in the position I'm in."
