Novarro had hired the Ferguson brothers from an agency to come to his home for sex but the two young men believed that a large sum of money was hidden in Novarro's house. Novarro died as a result of asphyxiation - having choked to death on his own blood after being beaten. Some say Novarro had in fact been suffocated with a lead dildo given to him 45 years earlier by Rudolph Valentino.

Dmitry Ptashnikov is stabbed to death by serial killer Andrei Chikatilo aka The Rostov Ripper at the age of 11 in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov Oblast, Russia.

Chikatilo bit off Ptashnikov's tongue and penis.
