Kosiński suffered from multiple illnesses towards the end of his life and he was under attack from journalists who accused him of plagiarism. By his late 50s he was suffering from an irregular heartbeat as well as severe physical and nervous exhaustion. His parting note read: "I am going to put myself to sleep now for a bit longer than usual. Call it Eternity."

17-year-old mass murderer Daniel Scholeer aka Het Monster van Elverdinge in Steenstraat 4/6, Elverdinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Afterwards Scholeer said "They were good people, but so old-fashioned. I wasn't even allowed to be a rally pilot or a rock singer like Elvis Presley. And actually, I wanted to make the world a better place." In his room a list was found with 80 names of people he planned to kill.
