Noting that the Volkswagen's front passenger seat was missing the police officer searched Bundy's car and found a ski mask, a second mask fashioned from pantyhose, a crowbar, handcuffs, trash bags, a coil of rope, an ice pick, and other items initially assumed to be burglary tools. Bundy explained that the ski mask was for skiing, he had found the handcuffs in a dumpster and the rest were common household items.

David Francis is tortured to death by serial killer Robert Maudsley aka The Brain Eater at the age of 26 in Broadmoor Hospital, Crowthorne, Berkshire, United Kingdom.

Maudsley and another resident, David Cheeseman, locked themselves in a cell with convicted child molester Francis and tortured him to death over a period of nine hours.
