Crudup had to wait until the 1960s when he received an estimated 60.000 $ in back royalties. The Presley version was released on 19 July 1954 and considered as the birth of Rock'n'Roll by Rolling Stone magazine.

Comedian and actor Tony Anthony John Hancock commits suicide by an overdose of vodka and amylo-barbitones at the age of 44 in 98 Birriga Road, Bellevue Hill, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. In one of his suicide notes Hancock wrote: "Things just seemed to go too wrong too many times".
