The fire ignited as a result of a faulty liquid propane gas cylinder in a ground floor buffet of the hotel. 17-year-old kitchen helper Khayan Kasien had identified a faulty valve assembly on gas cylinder in a ground-floor buffet, while attempting to shut off the valve, he inadvertently increased the flow of gas and caused an explosion.

Falun Gong practicer Li Rongxian is tortured to death at the age of 44 in Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp, Jiutai, Jilin, China. Rongxian also suffered of advanced stages of pulmonary tuberculosis.
