1159 Die in Tōya Maru ferry capsizing during Typhoon Marie in Tsugaru Strait, Hokkaidō, Japan. Of the 1309 passengers and crew on board only 150 people survived. Four other ferries sank in the same typhoon, making a total loss of life of 1430. More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tōya_Maru
