Start of the trial against 65-year-old soldier and adventurer Francis Charteris aka The Rape-Master General for the rape of Anne Bond on 10 November 1729 in Old Bailey Criminal Court, London, Greater London, United Kingdom.

The jury quickly found Charteris guilty. On 2 March, he was sentenced to death and held in Newgate Prison. On 10 April 1730 after a substantial campaign to pardon Charteris, joined by Anne Bond, King George II granted him a royal pardon.
